Eleven more members of the Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) have sought shelter in Bangladesh amid the ongoing conflict between Arakan Army insurgents and junta forces in Rakhine state.

These BGP members entered Bangladesh from Jimongkhali border and Hatimarajiri border of Teknaf on Friday (19 April), said Shariful Islam, public relations officer (PRO) of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) headquarters.

Earlier on 18 April, 13 members of BGP surrendered to the Bangladesh Coast Guard after crossing the border through the Naf River in Teknaf.

Later, they were handed over to the BGB.

On Tuesday (16 April) night, 46 BGP members from Myanmar entered Bangladesh through the Naikshyongchari border in Bandarban.

Presently, there are at least 285 members of Myanmar’s army and BGP staying in Bangladesh.

Today (19 April), Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud announced that 285 members of BGP and Army who had taken refuge in Bangladesh will be repatriated to Myanmar via sea route on April 22.

Additionally, the foreign minister said that 150 Bangladeshi citizens detained in Myanmar will also be repatriated via ship.

At the beginning of this year, 330 BGP members and their family members entered Bangladesh amid the intense conflict between the rebels and Myanmar junta.

Later on 15 February, they were sent back through Cox's Bazar sea border.
