Internet users are facing trouble with connectivity as the supply of bandwidth from the country’s second submarine cable, SEA-ME-WE 5, has remained suspended since Friday night.

The state-owned bandwidth provider, Bangladesh Submarine Cables Plc (BSCPL), said the situation has arisen due to the 'break' of the fiber cable in Singapore.

Mirza Kamal Ahmed, the managing director of the company, said, "SEA-ME-WE 5 provides 1,600 Gbps bandwidth to the country. All of it is currently unavailable. We are trying to make alternative arrangements with SEA-ME-WE 4 (the first submarine cable). The fiber cable break in Singapore has created a similar situation in several other countries, including Bangladesh."

"It will be known by Saturday afternoon when it will return to normal," Mirza Kamal added.

Imdadul Haque, President of the Internet Service Provider Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB), said, "They are receiving calls from customers. Customers are complaining about slow internet service."

Currently, there is a demand for 5500 bandwidth in the country. Among them, the government organization Submarine Cable Company provides more than 2500 bandwidth. Private companies meet the rest of the demand through the International Terrestrial Cable (ITC).
